The Mount Royal urban greening project derives from my Masters dissertation.  Click here to view other visualisations from this project on the 3DN World website. You can download an interactive fly-through of this model here (13Mb), and the free NatureView viewer here. Note that you will need a fast PC with at least 2Gb RAM, and a good video card to run this fly-through. See the README.TXT file in the zip archive for more details.

Kwamsane Urban Greening Project: Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

These visualisations (above) show the 3500 trees planned for an urban greening project in the Ndlovu village, Kwamsane, Mtubatuba, and were used to facilitate participatory decision making and the planning of urban greening in the area. It has been reported that the visualisations greatly assisted acceptance of the project by both elected and traditional leadership, as well as the target community. You can download an interactive fly-through of this model here (8.6 Mb), and the free NatureView viewer here. Visit the African Conservation Trust website for more details of the project.

Proposed Housing Development in Ashburton, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa

Existing Landscape                      SE-NW General Perspective                      SE-NW Close-up

These visualisations provide an impression of a proposed (greenfields) housing development in the rural setting of Ashburton, Pietermaritzburg, and are based on limited information - i.e. the number of housing units and their general placement was known, but no road, boundry or architectural plans were available at the time. Accordingly 2D house 'billboards' were used as 'stand-ins' for the usual 3D models.  You can download an interactive fly-through of this model here (4.5Mb), and the free NatureView viewer here.
